You know I just recently realized where my oldest, Tyler, gets his poor eating habits from, he gets them from me. I will go all day without eating so I can have candy and cookies at night. (When I say go all day without eating I mean without eating anything but snacks of cookies and candy).
Tyler pretty much only eats chicken nuggets, bread, and pop tarts, and he is always asking for chips, candy, and milkshakes. We have been struggling for a while with getting him to eat foods. He has never been the best eater but his diet just gets worse and worse as he gets older. I realize now that he has probably seen my eating habits (even though I try to be discreet) and he has decided to take after me there.
We have exhausted so many options trying to get him to eat and I never for once thought that I would have to change my eating habits in hopes of him following my lead again. This means that I really will only be able to sneak cookies and candy at night and have to eat full normal meals during the day, but for my children I can handle any challenge. Although this may be the toughest thing I will go through because my cookies are my life line, one day without them and I can barely make it through the next day.
So for all the moms out there who are having difficulty getting your children to eat it may be time to look at what kind of an example you are setting. Who knows what you are doing may not be affecting your child's eating habits at all but it doesn't hurt to step back and look right?
Here's hoping this attempt works, heck maybe I'll even benefit from this...I doubt it, but I'll try.

Start little by little but I think u can do it :) I've always ate pretty healthy so it comes natural to eat like tht in front of my kids but daddy does not he don't like veggies and barely eats fruits so I have a 50/50 % chance they will take after me tabby always was a picky eater when it came to veggies and some meats and never liked to try anything new but lately things have turned and now skyla is getting that way when she was never picky but I'm guessing maybe it's a stage they go through I don't know.. And I don't know if they get it from me but I barely eat junk food such as chip, candy, etc so I guess it's good they don't either they rather eat bread and butter as a snack lol but all kids go through eating stages so hopefully that's what Tyler is going through ;)
ReplyDeleteHa he has been going through this stage for over a year now. Its so frustrating but now that he is talking better he can tell us what he wants even though usually what he wants is not good for him. Lol. But lil is the opposite of him. She eats EVERYTHING. Just proof on how different kids are...
ReplyDeleteWow... you made some good points here... my oldest son is 6 nd like your son only eats chicken nuggets nd snacks all day... he is tiny to where I didn't realize until I took a picture if him by his 20 month baby brother nd he looked wsyyy to skinny... his eating has gotten better but I took a different approach... wether it was right or not, it worked!!! My kid is eating 3 full meals a day nd yes will have some unhealthy snacks in between but overall has tried more food nd eating better... what did I do??? Explained to him what a feeding tube was nd a shot in the buttocks to gain weight nd be healthy... lol was I wrong? Idk I think I explained it all well nd it worked!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! That is like the best thing ever! If Tyler was old enough to understand that I would use that approach. The best ability a 6 year old has is his reason, I'm sure he figured suffering through a meal is better than a shot in the butt! Hopefully Tyler will be eating better by then or he will be getting that talk for sure! Thanks for sharing that one! :)
