This is my continued opinion from Wednesdays post.
How to keep guns out of schools:
Build a fence around the entire perimeter of the school.
Make students and faculty wear uniforms
Make students and faculty wear name badges (do not let them into school without it).
Place cameras around the school.
Have metal detectors at every entrance of the school.
Have plenty of security guards who can carry a baton and mase.
Do not let ANYONE who is not a student or faculty into the school EVER.
Provide thorough background checks for all faculty.
All schools should be considered "private" schools.
Now I know your thinking that this all will be expensive, of course its going to be expensive but can you really put a price on your child's safety!? Parents should pay, say $100 a month per kid for these expenses. I understand that not every parent can afford that so there will be a grant system that will help parents who cant afford to pay the amount. And we will use taxpayers money to cover the costs for grants and for anything that is not covered by the parents money.
I get that $1000 a year is a lot to pay but like I said can you really put a price on your kids safety? If I was not able to afford that amount a month then I would cut costs to pay for it. I would starve myself if I had to. I would cut down the extras on my cellphone to pay for it. I would do whatever I could to keep my kids safe. I mean would you rather pay $100 month or pay for a casket for your kid?
If it was necessary the school could allow volunteers to monitor the hallways of the school, after they have been given a sufficient background check and been required to follow the rules set forth for faculty members too.
Purchasing a weapon:
Be required to have a full background check performed.
Be required to pass a psychiatric test.
Require any member in the household to pass a psychiatric test. (If the test is not passed by a household member require certain measures to be taken to purchase the weapon).
Have a longer than 3 day waiting period to purchase a weapon, say like a month.
Be required to purchase a gun cabinet or lock box.
Again, I know this can become costly but if you purchase a weapon and someone you know uses that weapon on other people than would you feel at all responsible for not locking that weapon up?
There are people out there who are trying to convince society that guns are bad. They are not bad they are dangerous. Why would you protect schools with guns? What makes you think that someone cant rustle a gun from the armed guard at the entrance and use that to shoot up the school? People should be allowed to own weapons for sporting or for protection, we can't take that right away from them. But we can make attempts to protect others from getting hurt by those weapons.
Also don't forget to think about all the weapons that are sold illegally that can be purchased and used against other people. Limiting or banning of weapons does not affect those people at all. They are selling them illegally now what makes you think that passing a ban on weapons will suddenly cause them to change their minds. Weapons will still be available for people to purchase to hurt others if they go looking but if we at least make it more difficult for them to get them by do extensive tests before purchasing a weapon than maybe we can decrease the amount of people getting hurt by weapons.
This is all just something to think about, its my opinion on how things could work. I'm not saying its perfect but the idea of banning weapons sales seems even more farfetched than my ideas.
I absolutely agree!
