Sometimes we judge people too much on what little we know. You are judging what you see at that moment or what you hear. You probably don't know the whole story, or you probably only know a version of it.
If you see a family out to dinner and the child is misbehaving, the first thing that probably pops in your head is that the parent does not know how to discipline their child. That's a possibility, but probably not the reason. The reason is most likely because the kid actually has to sit still and be quiet for more than five seconds, which they are not used to doing. The kid gets aggravated and starts acting up, and the parents, who probably don't go out much, are trying to ignore the kid and enjoy themselves as much as possible.
I know a few years ago before I had kids I would have never thought that would be the case, but now having two kids I completely understand that situation and have been there before. Although my kids don't usually cry when we go out, they do have problems sitting still and that can be just as much of a pain in the ass.
We need to remember when we are out that kids are difficult, they put you in situations you would have never imagined, like maybe peeing their pants in public and you don't have a spare set of clothes. Sometimes stuff just happens and sometimes we may not react the way we would want to, but when you're hungry or frustrated or upset, sometimes things just go a certain way and it's hard to change the course.
So next time you start to judge another parent whether, it's a friend or a stranger, remember that everybody reacts differently to situations. Sometimes other people handle things worse or even better than we would in that same situation. Nobody is perfect. But it makes it even harder to go everyday trying to be a good parent and worry if there is somebody else out there watching you and judging you. It puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on us and it can sometimes make the situation worse. So try not to judge your friends or the strangers you see because one day that could be you and you wouldn't like being judged harshly for a moment of weakness or for being in a situation that has been misconstrued.

Yes very true. Before we had kids we would look at kids at the store or at the restaurant and think wow my kid will not act like that I'm gonna be the best parent ever well I've learned it's not like that at all.. Kids r going to misbehave at times it's who they r, they've learning and showing their feelings, if they want to get up they don't care where u are they will let u know, they have to go potty they don't care whose eating they will say it loud lol and when they get mad about anything they will show it, I hate when people look at me and u can totally see them judging the way u r handling things but when ur in te moment u don't give a crap it's not like ur beating ur child lol people definitly need to realize its not easy to have children out to eat with u, sometimes it a breeze but u can definitly have them times u just wanna go nuts n like u said ignore the child cuz all u want to do is eat.
ReplyDeleteHey girly u were my inspiration to start tweeting LOL I started following come follow me in my crazy life as a say t home mommy with three kids lol
ReplyDeleteExactly! I used to judge the strangers I see based on how their kids act, and sometimes I still judge. Every kid behaves differently in a each situation and just because my kids don't act like the kids I see does not mean I should judge the parents because they could be doing exactly what I do their kids are just different than mine. But when my kids misbehave I hate getting those looks and I know I need to stop giving other people looks so maybe I'll stop receiving them (probably not, but its worth a shot). We are a very judgmental society and that's why we are at where we are at. And I'll definitely check you out on twitter! :)
